Spare set of medals

The dispute about the thirdplace award in the national madison cycling championship is slowly petering out—but two sets of medals will remain in existence

V. J. Hanaray (Hastings) and M. W. Grace (Canada) finished third, and an appeal bv R. D. Nant and D. Hollows (West CoastNorth Island) was disallowed. However, the national council—in an unprecedented move—over, ruled this decision and told the Canterbury centre to recover the medals.

This would have proved dlffi cult as Grace has returned to Canada and Hanaray is now in Europe The council must have realised this, as it told, the Canterbun' centre’s meeting last evening it would not bother to recover the medals, but would issue a new set to Nant and Hollows.

However, the Canterbury president (Mr D R. Johnson) noted it was “most unfair to Grace and Hanaray, that they had no chance to appeal.”
