History of Games
The tender for the printing of the official history of the Tenth Commonwealth Games has been won by Bascands, Ltd.
The Games organising committee, represented by a special official history subcommittee under the chairmanship of Mr J. E. Davies, invited tenders from four Christchurch printing houses and received two replies. Mr Davies said yesterday that the 450-page history, longer than any previous Commonwealth Games history, would be published about September. Between 1750 and 2500 copies would be printed and there would be public sales, although no price had yet been fixed.
Most of the history, said Mr Davies, would be accounts of the actual Games sports, results and records. Also included would be full renorts from the more than 30 planning committees. The history is being edited by Mr A. R. Cant, with Messrs R. T. Brittenden, C. L. Saunders and M. P. Whatman associate editors. The illustrations, some in colour, are being edited by Mr L. R. Bloxham.
Rich race.—Pigeon racing will enter the big-money bracket when 1250 birds compete in a $20,000 event from Paekakariki to Auckland at the week-end.
