Women’s races ’blacklisted’
f.V.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY. Races for women riders on Sydney and provincial tracks have been “blacklisted.” because of pressure from trainers. The trainers have requested that clubs provide more events for “apprentices only” in preference to women. The president of the New South Wales Trainers’ Association (Mr C. Robertson) said in Sydney that “trainers can’t get rides for apprentices who need experience and feel they should get races before lady riders, who are hardly up to standard.” It is believed objections from trainers caused the Sydney Turf Club to defer a lady’s race scheduled for Rosehill.
Mr Robertson said his association will not bar ladies’ races, but feel they should not interfere with a normal programme. Mrs J York, ah experienced woman rider, was philosophical about the attitude. Mrs York said she thought the best way for an apprentice tn get experience was to ride against senior iockevs Race m r 'et i ng.« with events for women jockeys have drawn above-average crowds at Gosford and Kembl a Grange.
