Next season, no race staged by the Avondale Jockey Club, except those for maidens, will be worth less than $2500. which includes the normal subsidy from the Racing Authority. The club has broken away from a level maintained by the Auckland and Wellington Racing Clubs and will lead New Zealand for the over-all minimum stake paid. Maiden races aside, all events at Ellerslie and Trentham carrv a stake of at least $2200. which includes the S2OO subsidy from the authority. Avondale, with only a few exceptions besides maiden races, has kept in line over the last two or three years after being some way behind the two “giants” a decade or so ago. Thirty-three races on the AVondale club's 10-day calendar will be affected. Seventeen will ;be raised by $3OO eight by $7OO, i five by $5O and three by $5OO. The move will cost the club ; $12,450. '
