Taxi service
Sir, —I sympathise with “Anyone First’s” letter concerning infrequent taxi service. As usual Mr Malone has supplied an evasive answer. Section 62 of the Transport Licensing Regulations, 1971, also states that a “licensee shall not drive or cause or permit any person employed by him or subject to his orders to drive any taxicab for any continuous period of more than five hours and a half.” So when a driver is nearing the end of his shift and in the vicinity of the Square should he turn his radio off and drive home leaving countless people waiting on stands, or endeavour to obtain a fare travelling in
his direction? Or perhaps Mr Malone would prefer us to continue driving thereby endangering ourselves, our passengers and our vehicles in possible accident.—Yours (etc,
HAD YOU JACK April 29, 1974.
