Maori college to be run by State
(Xew Zealand Press Association' NAPIER. April 21. Te Aute College, near Hastings, will probably be integrated into the Stale school system.
A meeting of Government I representatives and groups' 1 associated with the college unanimously agreed in Napier yesterday that the i school should be redeveloped along the lines of St’. Stephen’s Maori School inAuckland. The decision has yet to be ] adopted bv the Te Aute Trust Board, but the board is ex- , pected to approve. lighted that a solution had apparently been found to Te Aute’s problems. If the board can increase the roll of 240 within the next few years the school will be integrated into the State system, on. its present site, and the trust board will retain responsibility for the hostels. The meeting was called after the Prime Minister (Mr, Kirk) promised to investigate Te Aute’s financial problems. The Minister of Maori and Island Affairs (Mr Rata) attended the meeting. i
