"Coleridge Run”
The days when traction engines hauling waggons with materials for the hydro-electric project at Lake Coleridge plied between the railway station yards at Coalgate and Coleridge were recalled at the week-end when members of the Southbrook Traction Engine Club took 12 engines, some of them drawing huts and waggons, to Lake Coleridge. Some of the engines travelled from Hawarden to Southbrook last Thursday for the outing and at Coalgate the contingent were joined by more engines from West Melton and Templeton. One broke down on the way. The president of the club, Mr F. A. Mclntosh, said the idea of re-enacting the so-called “Coleridge run” had been suggested by a member about a year ago when they were planning the programme of activities for the following year. The power project at Coleridge was opened 59 years ago. Mr Mclntosh recalled that one of the engines out during the week-end had actually been on the Coleridge run when it belonged to the late Truman Jones, of Hororata.
