Land rezoning refused
Applications for the rezoning of rural land between Paparoa Street and Grants Road so that it could be used for residential development were refused by the Waimairi County Council last evening. One request came from surveyors acting for the owners of land bounded by Grants Road and Grassmere Street, to the north-east of the block, and the other, which had already been the subject of a town-planning application, referred to a block off Paparoa Street on which P. C., V. M. and R. K. Mangos wanted to have 20 j sections'or 47 dwelling units.! The council’s townplanning officer (Mr R. M.l Parker) quoted from Town! and Country Planning Appeal Board decisions which had disallowed appeals on similar applications‘involving an ex-j tension of the urban fence. l
Mr Parker, referring to the Grants Road block, said that a change from rural to residential zoning was “not on” until a review and assessment of the whole situation in respect of residential land had been made.
Regarding applications before the council for specified departures which amounted to a change of zoning, the council was precluded by the Town and Country Planning Act from granting them, and it appeared that any appeals would be disallowed. These points, he said, were also applicable to the application by the members of the Mangos family.
