Use of house for aged not allowed
Town-planning consent was refused by the Waimairi County Council last evening for the house property of Mr S. M. Andrews, 45a Wai-iti Ter- L race, to be used as a home ] for the aged. The hacienda-type house i recently concerned the coun- j cil, which claimed that Mr] Andrews had done work to it ■ that was not in terms of his ■ building permit. At a hearing of his town-: planning application on | March 26. Mr Andrews said that he proposed to lease the: 'house to a church organisa-i Ition that was interested in! using it as a home for the : aged. The council, in refusing' ipermission, held that access! ito the site was limited, and] I that off-street car-parking ! would be inadequate. The • parking, of vehicles on the; i street, and vehicles backing, on ta the street, would de- I
tract from the surroundings. Belfast Gardens, Ltd, was refused permission to extend a fruit and vegetable shop at 718 North Road, Belfast. The council considered that this would be an extension of a non-conforming use. and that it would cause traffic complications at the point, (opposite the Johns Road junction) where , the main road narrows to one lane. The council also recommended its finance and traffic committee to investigate the traffic situation at this point, and to ask for a report from the Ministry of Transport. Permission was refused for !F, R. and E. A. Clark to bijild two unattached ownerjship flats at 122 Cavendish [Road. Consent was refused for i K. G. and J. Marshall to use ; part of a house at 18 Totara ■ ; Street for use by an osteo-i ipath. * I
