Cold, wet month

Lincoln College last month recorded the lowest amount of sunshine since records began in 1935.

There were 113.2 hours of (sunshine, compared with 221.6 hours in February, 1973, and 202.4 hours in 1972. Years whifh came close to this year’s figure, which is 40 per cent below' average, w’ere 1966, with 126 hours, and 1936. with 128 hours.

The rainfall, 88.1 mm, was twice the average, and the wettest since 1951, when 156 mm was recorded. In 1972 31.5 mm of rain was recorded, and only 11.8 mm fell in 1971.

The highest temperature for the month (on the 7th and 9th) was 34.9 deg., and the lowest (on the 27th) was 5.7 deg. The lowest grass temperature (also on the 27th) was 1.7 deg.
