Man killed in mud

<S.i Press Association) •INVERCARGILL. .March 8. A 30-year-old Invercargill man died early this afternoon after being engulfed in a mound of mud after his truck plunged backwards 200 feet down a bank.

His name is being withheld until the police have notified a relative in Australia.

The man, a sub-contrac-tor at Te Anau, was dumping a load of spoil at the lake control structure While he was backing his truck the edge of the road gave way and the vehicle plunged down into the huge heap of mud. It was engulfed immediately and the driver could not get out of the cab. Although efforts were made to reach the man he could not be removed before he died.
