CANBERRA, March 7. The Queen has decided to cancel her visit to Australia which was due to start in Darwin tonight, the Prime Minister (Mr Whitlam) said tonight.

Mr Whitlam said that the cancellation had been announced by Buckingham Palace.

The announcement said: “With the agreement of the Prime Minister of Australia, it has been decided that the Queen should not now visit South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory in March.

“It is Her Majesty’s hope and intention to visit these two states and the Northern Territory when this proves possible and appropriate.”
