N.Z. whisky for Mr Wilson
(New Zealand Press Association)
DUNEDIN, March 6
Twelve bottles of New Zealand whisky will be loaded in the NZ Waitangi for the British Prime Minister (Mi’ Wilson) and presented to him after the ship arrives at Liverpool on her first voyage.
Six bottles of 45 South and six of Wilson’s will be presented to the master of the NZ Waitangi (Captain W. P. Russell), who will arrange for it to be handed to Mr Wilson. Samples of the whisky will also be presented to Captain Russell by Wilson’s Distil-
ilers, Ltd, of Dunedin, to; mark the inauguration of the British run by the New Zea-! land Line. Mr J. Pope, the marketing' manager for Wilson’s Distillers, said that it was appropriate that the NZ Waitangi should carry the whisky because the ship had been named in Auckland on the i same day that the New Zea-: .land whisky had been launched, February 14. It was also considered appropriate to send the whisky to Mr Wilson because, apart from the connection in names, Mr Wilson had returned to power when the New Zealand Line and the New Zealand whisky were getting off the ground. Crew members also plan to hold their own celebration when the ship arrives at Liverpool. They are taking two crates of the Nevi Zealand whisky with them, and will hold a hangi on Merseyside to commemorate the maiden voyage. The crew is! taking New Zealand stones and leaves to ensure the authenticity of the hangi. 1
