No more snubs, says Mr Peart
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, March 6. “I won’t snub New Zealand and Australia because of any new-won friendsihips in Europe,” Mr Fred Peart, an avowed admirer of the old Commonwealth said today on his return to the posi of Minister of Agriculture. Mr Peart said that his long-term objective was to restore the traditional access of New Zealand and Australian primary producers to the British market. “The tragedy is that ’ because of previous poli-
cies, Britain, has virtually snubbed New Zealand and Australia,” he said. “In a crisis, when we have had food difficulties, New Zealand s always played its part. “It may well be that in future the situation will not be the same as it was, but I shall b' striving to renew our traditional ties with New Zealand.” Mr Peart said. The new Labour Minister said he would meet the New Zealand Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Waiding) in London in two weeks.
