Two-tooth ewes to $27.60

Corriedale ewes sold to 527.60 at the Ashburton County breeders’ fine wool two-tooth ewe fair at Tinwald yesterday. It is thought that the price may be a record for fine wool sheep. The yarding of more than 13,000, which was about 2000 up on last year, was considered to be one of the best for some years with the sheep being mainly in excellent condition with only a few showing signs of having been a little short of feed after shearing. The sale started off quietly with some good medium sheep being sold at 516.50 to SlB, and light at $14.50 to $l5. Later, however, a nen of Rakaia Gorge sheen brought $21.25, and this set the pattern for subsequent sales of better class lines. The better condition lines tended to get firmer as the sale progressed, but for smaller and lighter sheep values remained about opening rates. The ton price of the day went to R. M. Kingsbury (Wakanui) for 146 Corriedales which sold (for $27.60. This vendor averaged $23 for 773 sheep. | Some sheep were bought for .Palmerston in Otago but most I went Io Mid and South Canterbury buyers. There was a good clearance with few passings.
