National union not favoured
• The Canterbury Clerks, ’! Cashiers and Office Emjployees’ union did not favour! ■ the formation of a national union for clerical workers, (said its secretary (Mr E. C. 'Blacker) last evening. The Canterbury union was' affiliated to the Federated j Clerical and Office Employees’ Association, which ! performed nearly all the functions of a national union, said Mr Blacker. ; The Press Association reports that the executive of ! the Auckland Clerical i Workers’ Union has approved jin principle the idea of a {national union. I The Auckland union’s secretary (Mr B. T. Brooks) <aid that the executive was I "favourably disposed towards the idea” but it was also ("conscious of the vast amount lof work to be done and the 'many problems to be overcome.” The Auckland union includes about half of the; .; 35,000 members of the seven regional clerical workers’ unions which are considering amalgamation. |
