S.I. yachting title
Canterbury crews are expected to perform prominently, regardless of the weather during the South Island R class yachting championships at Dunedin tomorrow and on Sunday. The former title-holder. J Rountree, and his for’ard hand, P. Townsend, will be favoured for over-all victory in heavier airs, but if the breezes are light I. and N. Jackson will be expected to extend them. The Jackson brothers have rigged their craft. Unique, to to a sail plan similar to that of Rountree’s boat. Relent. It has been very effective in recent outings at Lyttelton. R. Ineson and I. Le Page, who were the runners-up in the Otago championship earlier this season, will provide Canterbury with a strong third-string in its attempt to reclaim the title. The Otago champion, J. Mears, can be expected to make maximum use of his local knowledge and considerable experience. B. Wislang and R. Deemess, of Nelson, did well on a visit to Lyttelton late last year, and other entries are expected from Timaru and Invercargill.
