Queen arrives today
Her Majesty the Queen, Princess Anne and her husband, Captain Mark Phillips, will arrive at 4.15 p.m. today by Air New Zealand DCB‘ at Christchurch Airport and park on the Canterbury Aero Club apron. On their arrival, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales will board the aircraft.
The Royal Family will then leave the plane—a special direct flight from Rarotonga—to be met by the Governor-General (Sir Denis Blundell) and Lady Blundell. After the ceremonial Royal salute there will follow an inspection of the Guard of Honour and official presentations on the tarmac.
The Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) will welcome the Royal Family and the Queen will reply.
At 4.40 p.m. the Royal Family will leave by car for the Britannia and travel down Memorial Avenue, Fendalton Road, Harper Avenue, Park Terrace and Armagh Street. At Armagh Street, the cars will slow down for a ceremonial drive along Colombo Street through Cathedral Square and down High Street. At Ferry Road the cars will resume normal speed and travel through the Lyttelton Road Tunnel to the Royal Yacht.
In the evening, the Royal Family is free from official engagements.
