Laver (Australia), continued his amazing mastery !of the American, Arthur Ashe, yesterday, beating him 6-1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to win the SUSIOO.OOO United States Professional Indoor Tennis Tournament. The match took 2hr 13min. Laver, aged 35, back in competition after a year of back miseries which put him ;out of the top rankings, beat Ashe for the eighteenth time in as many meetings. Laver won SUSIS,OOO for his week-long effort and Ashe SUS7OOO. M. Estep (United States) and P. Cramer (South Africa) won the doubles from the French team of J. Chanfreau and G. Goven, 6-1, 6-1.
