Halls used as “crash pads"
Several church halls have been converted into makeshift “crash pads” during the Commonwealth Games and ■ are accommodating about 200| persons each night for 50c al head. There was a big demand: for cheap accommodation, I particularly as the youth hostels were booked out, said the chairman of the information sub committee of the Commonwealth Games emergency welfare services committee (Mr D. Clarkson) yesterday. A number of motels and [private hotels have vacancies, Ibut they are being shunned [by the young visitors, many [carrying packs and sleeping [bags, who have come on a [cheap holiday.
