Wine sale to Japan
(A’.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Montana Wines, Ltd, has I received its largest single (export order, a request for (3000 cases of wine for shipment to Japan. The single order is slightly bigger than the company’s total shipments to Japan last year. Montana says it believes the order will be the largest single consignment of wine sent from New Zealand. Montana’s trade with Japan has been developed by the Nippon New Zealand Trading Company, Ltd, in Tokyo—a company associated with the Carter Holt group.
As part of the promotion to sell wine to the Japanese, cardboard carry bags, gift boxes, display materials, and a colour leaflet have been produced. These have even influenced the naming of a restaurant, Montana, the company claims. Montana says that the taste preference in Japan is for semi-sweet still table wines, and that orders for Rose and Moselle are drawing ahead of those for drier wines.
