Chapman impresses at age tennis

(Icie Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. January 15. S. Chapman, aged 15, of Canterbury, who is seeded number one in the under 17 girls’ singles at the national age tennis championships, looked the part in winning her second round match at Stanley Street today.

She scored a 6-2. 6-1 win over K. Kennedy (Waikato).

Miss Chapman’s path has been made easier by the surprising defeat on the first dav of H. Lobb.

But Miss Chapman still has some stern opposition in her own half of the draw. In all likelihood she will have to dispose cf H. Harris (Waikato) in the quarter-finals which will not be easy.

Then there is the possibility of a semi-final against B. Perry, who had to labour long and hard today to beat A Ngatai I Bay of Plenty, but who is among the best of her age group. Finally there is the daunting prospect of a match against S. Tebbutt. a 16-year-old from Waiikato who is just back from I representing New Zealand in the Wilson Cup competition in ' Sydney.
