BROCHURE FOR VISITORS

“Grabit,” a four - page information hand-out for Commonwealth Games visitors, containing a variety of advice on community facilities, was printed in Christchurch yesterday by the Rhema Christian Press.

The publication is shown in the hands of Mr D. B. Rich, the co-ordinator of the Games other activities committee, and Mr J. R. L. Fry, the secretary of the Games emergency welfare services committee. The publication gives advice on entertainment, eating out. transport, and employment, and information about emergency services, community agencies, and facilities. Fifteen thousand copies will be distributed free at the airport, railway stations, bus terminals, the Town Hall, Queen Elizabeth II ' Park ' ar| d from a youth in-

formation centre in Cathedral Square. The centre, a caravan, will be staffed by 40 voluntary workers working in pairs in four-hour shifts from January 21 to February 4. They will supply supplementary information. Mr Fry said yesterday that the paper was modelled on

a community brochure published by Amsterdam civic authorities for visitors. “I was impressed that the authorities should make themselves responsible for ensuring visitors were informed about facilties. ‘Grabit’ is an attempt to supply the same kind of service,” he said.

It was likely that after the Games were over “Grabit” would continue in a modified form to offer advice to tourists in Christchurch. Mr Fry said. The Commonwealth Games issue was financed jointly by the emergency welfare committee and the Christchurch City Council.
