Injuries thought accidental
The . police are satisfied that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of a seriously injured man outside the Caledonian Hotel in St Albans on Saturday evening. The man. Peter Jack Canavan, aged 43. of 300 Hereford •Street, was found lying on a footpath by two men, who put him in his car. Soon afterwards, he was again found slumped on the ground outside his car, and he was put inside by four persons. About 9 a.m. on Sunday, an American serviceman saw Mr Canavan lying in the back seat of his car, and called the police. Detective Inspector J. W. Wooders said yesterday that the police believed Mr Canavan’s injuries — spinal injuries and burns — had been caused accidentally. The bums had probably been caused by the friction of his jersey on his skin. Mr Canavan’s condition in the Christchurch Hospital last evening was still reported as serious.
