Peace roles of Forces

(ft.Z. Pi sso< lotioii WEI LINGTOX. The newly-knighted Chief of Defence Staff. LieutenantGeneral Sir Richard Webb believes that the Armed

Forces can greatly benefit from their peace-time roles m the community. He said that the ability of the services to help in’the community was important, because unless the forces' machinery was used all the

time it became rusty. Included in the services' roles were the Navy's fisher-ies-protection vessels, tj )e Army’s disaster-relief work, and the Air Force's contribution in hurricane relief. The motivation of men now volunteering for the Armed Forces was very high, said Sir Richard Webb. The dropout rate of volunteers was slightlv higher than pres, iously, but this was to be expected.
