Cousteau film

Viewers who enjoyed “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau” series last year will enjoy another dimension of Cousteau’s voyages of discovery in an award-winning documentary which screens on Wednesday afternoon. Winner of an academy award as “Best FeatureLength Documentary,” this account of two inter-related undersea experiments-“world Without Sun”—shows human beings living and working beneath the sea. The film is a record of both the exploration, by a newly-invented two-man submarine, of the unknown reefs and channels beneath the Red Sea and Indian Ocean, and the establishment of an underwater community by “oceanauts” from Cousteau’s complex oceanographic research vessel, the Calypso. This latter month-long experiment involved speciallybuilt underwater homes which provided the “oceanauts” with many of the ordinary comforts of life on land, and" which they used as a base' for additional belowsurface ocean exploration and research.
