No fires in open

A total ban on the lighting of fires in the open has been imposed over the whole of the Rangiora and Eyre counties.

The danger is especially great at beach camps where there are stands of timber and dry grasses. The ban includes the lighting of barbecues in the open. Campers or visitors have been asked to inquire at a local store or garage to ascertain whether restrictions apply to their area.

The restrictions will cease on January 21.
