PENSIONER HOUSING

Plans by the Heathcote County Council to build pensioner housing at Martindales Road, Heathcote, came a stage nearer fruition at a meeting of the council last evening, when it was decided to apply for a Health Department subsidy on an expenditure of $133,850 for the 15 units.

When the subsidy payment is known, the council agreed, it would apply for a loan to cover the balance of the cost. The Housing Division of the Ministry of Works said it would recommend to the Minister of Housing (Mr Fraser) that the land needed for the pensioner housing be sold to the council for $3OOO a section.
