Jackson Bay Crown purchase sought
(From Our Own Reporter)
GREYMOUTH, October 19.
The Westland County Council will ask the Government to investigate the ownership of land at Jackson Bay with a view to buying it back at fair market value.
i The council will also ask that the Jackson Bay township be replanned and subdivided into sections of not more than 25 perches for residential purposes. The vesting of an area in the council’s care for the erection of a single men’s bach, to be made available on a rental basis, will also be sought. Cr M. Wallace told a meeting of the council that some persons had expressed a desire to live at the bay.
“The area available for residential purposes is extremely limited, and what there is is largely held by
(absentee owners who have little, if any, intention of lever living there,” he said. “I am not an advocate for expropriation, but I have concluded that the time has come when positive steps must be taken to rationalise the situation at the bay,” said Cr Wallace.
