England to enter team
An English team of 45 athletes—3o men and 15 women —has entered for the preCommonwealth Games track and field meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park on January 20.
“This is particularly pleasing,’’ the chairman 'of the organising committee (Mr K. J. Ryall) said yesterday. “I am sure we will get 70 per cent of the athletes who will be competing at the Games.” Other countries entered are I Tonga, Isle of Man and 'Papua New Guinea. Entries do not officially close until January 17. Tennis.—K. Rosewall, the Australian professional, has signed a one-year contract as player-, coach for the Pittsburgh Triangles of the new 16-city World Team League. Soccer.—Middlesbrough gained I a five-point lead in the English i | League second division bv beat-J ling Preston North End. 3-0. ‘ yesterday.
