Record entries for Nelson Show

<Frcm Our Own Reporter) f nelson. November 17. Record sheep and horse entries boosted entries for this year’s Nelson A. and P. Association Show at Richmond to a new high level. Sheep entries, in particular, showed a dramatic increase or. figures for shows in more recent years. Of the 313 entries in the shee] classes, 140 were in the Romnej section; while there were 154! horse and pony entries. The only disappointing featun of the twoday event was th< poor response in the classes 01 beef breeds. There were only four exhibitors competing in the six classes. This year, there wen no Angus cattle shown. A blustery southerly today did not prevent a large crowd attend Ing the show. Among the high lights of the day was a race over 50 yards featuring a horse and rider, a car assembled in Nelson, and a well-known New Zealand athlete, the sprinter, F. R Silke. He failed by the shortest of margins to take the ribbon from the horse. As well as wood chopping in; the main ring, the large crowd was treated to an unusual display —a parade of bridal gowns in Victorian style, complete with bridesmaids and flowergirls in colourful gowns of the period. • Possible the only unhappy proprietors in sideshow alley were the ferris wheel operators. The death of two girls on a ferris wheel in the North Island recently was blamed by the operators for the negligible business that came their way. There were times, particularly on Friday, when the wheels remained. completely empty for long; periods. Championship awards were:— | CATTLE Registered Milking Shorthorn. —Cow: E.
