W.E.A. summer school

The Canterbury Workers’] Educational Association will hold its annual summer] school at Nelson Girls’ Col-] lege from December 27 to ] January 5 next. The subject of the main ; course of lectures will be{ New Zealand politics in the 19705, the principal lecturer being Professor W. K. Jackson, professor of political; science at the University of Canterbury. Topics to be examined during the main lectures and several subsidiary courses will include the shift of the I balance of political power ' from Europe to New Zealand; the Pacific basin; Maoripolitics; and New Zealand’s oolicies concerning SouthEast Asia and Japan. Dr I. F. Owens, of the geography department* of the University of Canterbury, will give a series of lectures on .the Nelson area, to be followed by field trips to places {of interest in the district. Mr C. L. Martin, president iof the W.E.A.. will act as tutor of a music course, and a course in practical art open to experienced students as well as to beginners will be tutored by Mrs M. Atkins.

The director of the summer school will be Mr B. R. Hansen, chairman of the summer school committee of the Canterbury W.E.A.
