Sport subsidy allocation
If, in fact, the Canterbun’ Federation of Sport was a representative group, the council wanted it to recommend priorities for the allocation of sport and recreation subsidies so that the council could reach decisions, said the chairman (Mr D. B. Rich), at a meeting of the Waimairi County Council. Mr Rich said that it was possible that many sports, and other activities that ’qualified for subsidy, were ’not covered by the federation. The definition of recreation was very wide. The federation asked the council for the name of the person to whom responsibility had been given for the allocation of the subsidy, so that a meeting could be arranged. The council, which has $39,180 to distribute, decided to tell the federation that it was responsible for the allocation of the money, and would accept written submissions from sporting or recreational organisations.
