CYCLING AGAIN STOPPED

"This rain might, be good for the garden, but it is putting our track riders at a big disadvantage and in an awfully difficult position.” said Mr B. E. Dawe, convenor of the Canterbury cycling selection panel, last evening. The scheduled track meeting at English Park was abandoned, and this was a further set-back to the selectors in their efforts to choose the Canterbury team for the national championships. The trials, which started at Denton Park on Sunday, were due to end on Monday evening; rain caused the postponement then. They could not be held on Tuesday evening because English Park is the only lighted track in Christchurch—the lighting at Denton Park is not yet completed—and it was already committed to softball. The Canterbury team must be named by next Monday, It is now hoped to complete the trials at English Park this evening.
