Smelter might be expanded

The Government had com-1 pleted computer runs on! water flows and other mat-; ters at Lake Manapouri as a! preliminary to holding talks with Comalco on the possibleexpansion of the Bluff aluminium smelter, said the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Watt). New Zealand had all the information it needed and he had been hopeful of holding talks by now, said Mr Watt. However, he appreciated that Comalco had been very busy recently with shipping problems. Mr Watt said that in his private talks in the past with Comalco the company had shown its keenness to expand the smelter.
