Bridging progress
The Clarence River Bridge is not expected to be completed until about December next year, although the contractor would try to finish it by July, according to the report of the Ministry of Works Resident Engineer (Mr W. A. Scott) presented to the No. 13 District Roads Council at its half-yearly review at Cheviot.
Construction of the superstructure was progressing slowly but surely, and almost two of the five spans had been completed, said the report.
The Leader Bridge was completed, and a contract had been let for the extensive approach work. The Waipara deviation had been completed. Reconstruction of the Awapuni Hill-Karaka section of Highway 7 had been completed. The widening of the Dorns Stream Bridge, also on Highway 7, should be finished before Christmas, completing the widening to two lanes of the single-lane permanent structures, but there were still six single-lane Bailey bridges.
On Highway 1. substantial work had been done to improve the direction of the flow under the Waiau Bridge, said the report. On Highway 70, several bridges in the Amuri County were strengthened, and a modest amount of seal widening done.
