CYCLING REQUEST

Manx Games riders Cyclists from the Isle of Mtn want competition in Canterbury from the time they arrive for the Commonwealth Games, on January 12. The Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre last evening had this request from the Manx Games Association. Its secretary (Mr J. C. Clague) said it was customary for races to be provided in or near the Games city, and prizes were not important. Mr Clague suggested two races, or a two-day event, on the week end of January 19-20, and if some races were organised, the Manx cycling manager (Mr R. Killer > would contact the other British teams. However, the meeting felt that with possible track meetings that week-end. January 17 and 18 would be better dates. The meeting agreed it would probably have no difficulty in organising such races and it would tell the Manx association. Members expressed general satisfaction with the first appear, ance of the Denton Park track and felt the riders could avoid damaging the still-soft surface.
