Coast bird depletion
Bird shooting on the West Coast has increased markedly and there is urgent need for a new habitat, says an acclimatisation society official, Mr R. A. Webber. And although the Lake Ryan game farm was serving a very useful role in providing birds to establish a species, it is not meant to provide birds for the gun, he says. The 1972 average bag was 23.2 birds. “With 478 licensed shooters this means a total kill in excess of 11,000.”—(F.O.O.R.).
