Hood ornaments are once again being produced for such cars as the Chevrolet Chevelle (upper right), and Mercury Cougar (lower right). Production of ornaments stopped in the 1960s as it was felt they were a hazard to pedestrians thrown against the hood in an accident. Now they are spring-loaded and flatten on impact (left).
