J The South African Minister of Information (Dr Connie Mulder) has again threatened; to close some newspapers if, they do not heed an order to ! “put their houses in order”' by the Prime Minister (Mr Vorster). Mr Vorster has given pro-1 prietors of those newspapers he says promote racial incitement until January to comply. He has refused to discuss the matter with the proprietors and he says he is going ahead with legislation. Dr Mulder told a National Party meeting last night: “We believe in press freedom; but it must be coupled with press responsibility.” “The press’s responsibility! in South Africa is greaterl than that of the individual” I he said. “It must take more! care than the individual.” ■ Dr Mulder said that if 1 papers did not take their responsibility seriously “we I will not use censorship — in flat farm Afrikaans we will! pull them off the streets.” I
