Games hostesses
Sir, — Mr N. B. Ullrich,; says that the “appeal com-! mittees throughout the coun-: try have been charged with! the responsibility of finding? girls who will meet the re-i .quirements of the Organising' (Committee” — of which he! is vice-chairman. He further [says that, to enter into al
[discussion about the qualifications would probably result in the Games ■ being staged without victory [hostesses. Surely Mr Ullrich J has missed the point. There lis no discussion; the com- ■ mittee has decided on certain qualifications based on male chauvinistic, sexist principles which eliminate the married, those over 22, and men. I cannot but wonder how Mr Ullrich would have felt if these principles had applied when he was given the job. It is exactly this type of discrimination that is making women so angry. — Yours, etc., ELIZABETH SEWELL. October 12. 1973.
