LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
(1) Letters to be considered for this column must not exceed 150 words. They should be on only one side of the paper; preferably typewritten. otherwise clearly written in ink; and ample margins and space between lines should be left for convenience in sub-editing. (2) A legible signature and fuU address—not a P.O box number — are required whether these are to be printed or not. (31 The correspondent must say whether the letter has been or is to be submitted elsewhere. 14) The editor cannot return oi keep any letter not accepted for printing; nor does he undertake to acknowledge or enter into correspondence concerning letters, although an acknowledgement will be made where this seems to be necessary or helpful (5) As a general rule correspondence on news items tn other publications, or carried on radio and television, is not acceptable.
Lover of Beauty.—More drastic remedies than tree-planting are now needed. Puzzled.—No space here for discussion of magistrates’ sentences. Gref.—You could surely drive your car to one of (he areas reserved for ambulances, see your relative Inside the door, and then drive the car away to a parking area. Nil Desperandum.—You should keep the two items of expenditure in perspective. An increase of $1 a week in pensions costs about $l7 million a year—enough to send a Cabinet Minister and a staff of three on a thousand one-month round-the-world trips.
