Trawler in difficulties

(N.2. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 17. A helicopter was rushed from Wanganui late tonight to help a trawler in difficulties off Kapiti Island. The Galaxy, owned by Wanganui Trawlers, Ltd, encountered heavy seas and took in several hundred gallons of water. A helicopter was given Civil Aviation approval to fly at night, to carry auxiliary pumps to the vessel. It left Wanganui at 9.20 p.m. The managing-director of Wanganui Trawlers, Ltd (Mrs P. Williams) said tonignt the pumps were flown out only as a precautionary measure, because the vessel’s pumps were holding the water at a steady level. “The trawler has anchored off Kapiti Island. It was not as serious as it was first made out to be,” she said.
