Special garden contests

The Commonwealth Games Garden Promotion Committee last night approved a wide range of new classes and awards to be judged shortly before the Games next year. As well as the usual competition classes, two new classes are for home-owners under 30 and over 65. Another class is for people who have never entered a garden competition before. The committee will select gardens on routes to and from any Games venue, to be judged in two classes — the best individual garden and a group of houses on any one side of the route. Gardens on industrial and institutional premises will be included. A special award will be made to the service station with the best garden.
