Tanker held in port
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 25. Protesting against delays in negotiating claims for higher wages and longer leave, cooks and stewards in the coastal tanker Hamilton j declared a 24-hour stoppage this morning. The ship was due to leave at 8 a.m. from Auckland for Mount Maunganui but the providoring staff announced: last night that it would not! sail.
It is believed that petrol supplies are still lean after an 11-day shutdown for annual maintenance at Marsden Point, and the cooks’ and stewards’ 10-day strike.
