‘Change of tactics’
Monthly workshops would provide a “change of tactics” for the Christchurch branch of the National Organisation for Women, the branch president, Mrs Joan Rotherham, said recently.
“We have reached the stage where our members wish to work for the implementation of practical reforms and social services, rather than listening to lectures and entering into discussions.”
To meet its changing needs, N.O.W. will hold “workshops” in five different areas of Christchurch this year. These will be held in the homes of members, representing a i movement away from the j large public meetings N.O.W. has held in the past. "The aim of such meetings will be to make decisions on matters relating to the organisation’s policy, to de-
cide on areas in which research should be conducted and to collate information and educate members.” Men would be welcomed at these meetings, she said, in accordance with N.O.W.’s aim of involving men as well as women and its belief that the achievement of social, cultural and economic equality for women was a goal which, as well as freeing women from suburban neurosis, would free men from their stomach ulcers.
The topic for study at N.O.W.s first series of workshops will be the stand which the organisation should take on abortion law reform.
