England, which has! dominated the four-nation j tournament since 1967, justi about deserved to win, but the match never lived up toj its expectations.
The goal that setlted the issue came in the fifty-fourth minute, the result of a combination between the 1966 World Cup campaigners, A. Bal] and M. Peters. M. Peters.
England was awarded a freekick near the touch line, and! Ball crossed to the far post! where Peters, unmarked,! headed in. Northern Ireland finished! second when a goal in the! fourteenth minute by B.j Hamilton gave it a 1-0 vic-1 tory over Wales at Liverpool.! Scotland ended in third place and Wales was last.
