AIRPORT GROWTH
sl.sm revenue expected
A forecast that ChristI church Airport is expected ■to earn a record sl.sm in [revenue is made by the Christchurch airport auIthority in its April newsletter “Air News.” In the year to March 31 growth was recorded in the number of passengers and the amount of cargo and mail carried.
Air New Zealand and Qantas carried 156,879 passengers—a 6 per cent increase over the previous ■ year. International cargo was [down 11 per cent but this was the result of the intro- [ duction of DCB services into Wellington airport. This position has since stabilised and in the last three months international cargo has in- ■ creased again. I National Airways’ passenger growth is up 9 per cent and that of Mount Cook by 13 per cent. N.A.C.’s freight and mail carriage .increased by 24 per cent.
■ The United States Air [Force passenger and freight figures showed increases of 21 per cent and 41 per cent respectively, while the United States Navy had a 5 per cent passenger increase and a 55 per cent freight rise.
