Mr Faulkner has talks in Djakarta

(N.Z. Press Association— Copyriaht) DJAKARTA. The New Zealand Minister of Defence (Mr Faulkner) has arrived in Djakarta on the last leg of his South-East Asian tour.

His first talks with Indo-| nesia’s new Defence Minister! (General Maraden Panggabean) lasted well over the scheduled half an hour, and the two met again later at an official dinner at which General Panggabean was host. New Zealand Embassy officials said that Mr Faulkner’s visit — the first by a member of the Labour Government — was largely exploratory in nature. He was discussing mainly regional co-operation, and was seeking the views of the countries in the area on what form they would like this to take. Mr Faulkner will also have talks with the Indonesian Foreign Minister (Mr Adam Malik) before Mr Malik’s departure for New Delhi. The Embassy sources said the possibility of holding joint naval exercises was also likely to be raised in Mr Faulkner’s talks with military officials. Mr Faulkner will travel today to Bandung, in West Java, for a briefing at the Combined Forces Educational

Institute, and will return to Djakarta on Monday afternoon.

He will see President Suharto on Tuesday morning, and will return the same day to Wellington.
