'TRAGEDY’ IN LIAISON
(N.Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) DURBAN. March 30. A 40-year-old white man and the 21-year-old Indian mother of his children have been given six month suspended prison sentences in Durban in what the Magistrate called a tragic case. The Magistrate, Mr L. L. McKay, told Norman Amos and Chintaman Naidoo that “this is different from the average type of immorality lease and it seems to be rather la tragic one.” “You seem to be sincerely iin love and would marry if 'the laws of the country would I allow it. There was nothing i clandestine about your relajtionship and Amos showed a I commendable sense of res- ; ponsibility throughout.” Amos told the Court that ihe had lived with Naidoo’s family for 10 years, and I wished to have his race reI classified so that he could | marry her under South I Africa’s laws, which forbid inter -marriage between I whites and other races.
